REMOVAL OF ILLEGAL SQUATTERS ON BLACKHILL

We the undersigned residents of the surrounding areas in the Fish Hoek District request that action be taken against the increasing number of squatters occupying illegally built shacks on Blackhill.

Over the past few months the following has been observed:

  1. The squatters have been found in possession of stolen goods and drugs on a previous SAPS raid.
  2. Capri residents with CCTV overlooking the Tobago Way path repeatedly see suspicious people carrying goods at all hours of the day and night up the path onto Blackhill where they have illegal structures.
  3. The squatter are destroying the environment, with litter and garbage all over the mountain.
  4. Fires are lit daily creating a fire hazard for the mountain and residents.
  5. The squatters defecate openly, creating a biohazard.
  6. The value of the properties are devaluating due to the escalating crime.
  7. One house break-in at night may have resulted in a fatal shooting, as the burglar stated he had a firearm.

The reasons we request action is that escalating crime in the surrounding areas has reached epidemic proportions, with daily break-ins of houses and vehicles.

Failure to take swift action will result in the number of squatters continuing to escalate making the situation far worse than it is at present.

We request that SAPS and / or the appropriate authorities take the necessary action for the prosecution and / or removal of the suspected criminals and illegal squatters.
