My memories of Bill Summers date back to Little League banquets. It was always a special time when he was the featured speaker. He was well respected by the adults in town and kids like me were in awe of him.

I grew up in Upton in the early 50's and always heard about Bill Summers the famous umpire. As a young kid I always thought he was the "Red Sox" ump.

A way to save a small piece of baseball history.

I was also an umpire. Bill was one of the great umpires of the 1950s. He belongs in the HOF.

Because I believe that Bill deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. I was Bill's paperboy for many years. I personally know the Summers family. Bill would always attend our Little League banquets and tell us stories about Yogi Berra and his "discussions"over certain calls. Bill was always right. He umpired some of our opening day games. I remember my youngest brother asking my father "who was that guy umpiring?"
