When there was a sign of blight on the potato crop in 1845, the British authorities sent over a boatload of Scientists. After which the adopted a 'wait and see' attitude. It is never mentioned but the Turkish Sultan sent money to help in Ireland. The vicars, priests and some private people did their best.
