SAY NO to the UNLAWFUL CLOSURE of the Labyrinth of Buda Castle
STOP!
Say NO to the authorities’ occupation of culture, say NO to the unlawful closure of the Labyrinth of Buda Castle, to the authorities’ unreasonable and disproportionate overreach of power, and to the arbitrary application of the law!
In Budapest in the peak afternoon hours on 29 July the riot police and representatives of other authorities raided the Labyrinth of Buda Castle as if a terror attack had occurred or was about to happen. The terrified visitors were forced to leave the exhibition spaces and Budavári Labirintus Ltd. was stripped of its powers and headquarters, after 30 years of successful, internationally recognised activity.
It should be pointed out that NO court order exists that might have given the authorities’ the powers to raid the system of cellars and have it vacated. Raiding the premises in a police action served only one purpose: to high-handedly nationalise the premises, which is unacceptable in a constitutional state.
The aesthetic value, international and national popularity of the Labyrinth of Buda Castle cannot be called to doubt, and the system of cellars that we have developed has been included among the “Seven Underground Wonders of the World.”
The purpose of this petition is to call the authorities to respect the law and the legislation that governs them – not only with respect to the Labyirinth of Buda Castle, but in general. We object to the unlawful practices of the authorities taking over the role and competences of the law courts whose task is to provide legal remedy.
If you agree with our efforts and acknowledge the accomplishments and values of our activities, please sign our petition.
