Update on Green Belt development proposals NE of Chesham

2017-09-25 15:35:38

After months of silence and delayed deadlines by the Council on an announcement about the Green Belt site to the North East of Chesham, known as Lye Green, we felt the community deserved an update.  Accordingly, the Brown Not Green (BNG) Campaign have arranged an Open Meeting at the Chesham Town Hall on Saturday 14 October at 12.00 noon.   The meeting will be chaired by the Rt Hon Cheryl Gillan MP.  Admission is free

Phillip Plato of BNG will make a presentation at that meeting updating everyone on what we have been doing & where things are going.

Whilst encouraging progrees has been made in this campaign, we are rather concerned about the Council's further delayed announcement and especially the fact that this particular proposal has not already been dropped in the face of 1,800 people registering their opposition to the Council regarding this idea. Accordingly, we feel must now plan for the worst, which in this case would be that the site remains in the emerging Local Plan when it is eventually publishedand we then need to hire a barrister to  represent the community at the subsequent Public Inquiry sometime in 2018.

There will be a cost attached to this so we are now calling for donations. Accordingly, please see our Fundraising Page on the BNG website and if you have previously pledged funds, we are now able to accept them into the separate bank account that we have set up specifically for this cause.  We are hoping to create a Crowd Justice online funding portal in due course too, but that may take a bit of time.

Brown Not Green Chesham Ltd is now incorporated as a not for profit company limited by guarantee to ensure we can offer the appropriate structure for receiving & handling such donations.  Any unused funds will be returned to all donors on a pro rata basis.

We also urgently need some more volunteers - Due to personal circumstances we have recently lost the two Directors who coordinated a lot of door to door campaigning & leaflet distribution so we are looking for a couple of people to help in those roles too.   If you or anyone you know in the wider Chesham area might be able to help, we would really appreciate you letting us know.  - We need to push out 5,000 of the attached Public Meeting leaflets in the next couple of weeks.

Our Treasurer also needs help and ideally we need someone local who is (or was) an accountant or similar.  If anyone knows anybody we can approach, please let us know via the BNG website at http://www.brownnotgreen.com/contact.html.

Thank you!  We hope to see you at the open meeting on Sat 14 October.

Deadline for making comments to the Council - Mon 12 December

2016-12-01 12:54:05

Thank you all for your amazing response to this petition.

However, whilst your expression of support via this petion is important, individual responses to the Council carry greater weight.

Chiltern District Council have been seeking responses to their proposal to build 900 homes on the Green Belt NE of Chesham and the deadline for making such submissions is 5pm Monday 12 December 2016. Please could you make a comment via the appropriate method detailed at http://www.chiltern.gov.uk/planning/localplan2014-2036

If you need any guidance please go to http://brownnotgreen.weebly.com/how-to-respond.html .  Please make a comment direct to the Council no matter how brief if only to say the proposal is

  • inappropriate & will cause harm to the town (increased pollution & traffic, more strain on drainage, schools, doctors etc)
  • is unsustainable &
  • there are no "exceptional circumstances" to warrant removing the site NE of Chesham from the Green Belt.

Thank you!
