City of Cape Town, fix the Strandfontein Pavilion

The surrounding areas of the Strandfontein Pavilion are completely in ruin due to the lack of upkeep by the city and constitutes real dangers to beachgoers . The state of affairs at beaches once again shows that the city prioritises the more affluent areas beaches ahead of beaches frequented by the masses.

As the festive season approaches, we can expect to see more visitors(the masses) descend upon the Strandfontein Pavilion

It does however seem that taxpayers’ money is ploughed into the established leafy sector of the economy totally excluding previously and still currently neglected coastal resorts.

Strandfontein Pavilion beach facilities are neglected and there is no immediate commitment to fix these facilities.

We there-for need to petition the City of Cape Town to urgently address the lack of repair , upgrade and development at the Strandfontein Pavilion , which for years has been overlooked and side-lined to upgrades along the Atlantic coast line and else-where in Cape Town .

We further call for safety measures to be implemented with immediate effect to safeguard visitors to Fishermans Lane aka 'Broken Rd'

The Strandfontein Pavilion which is home to the largest tidal pool in the southern hemisphere and popular fishing area along the False bay coast ,

continues to suffer a great deal of damage while other (more affluent) areas continue to be upgraded , developed and hense thrive economically.

A petition will begin to chip away at the obstacles by asking the CoCT town planning committees to review the CoCT spending in other areas .

We request that the CoCT set an agenda item to hear this information and consider the need for fast tracking the upgrading and development and safety issues at the Strandfontein Pavilion.
