We are petitioning the Florida Governor, Charlie Christ to investigate the decision made by the Leon

Please sign this petition in hopes of releasing Darius from registering as a sexual predator for the rest of his life. Darius was 14 years old when he was accused of sexual battery/false imprisonment.  His birth year was oddly changed from 1988 to 1987; to make him appear to be 15 instead of 14. His public defender specifically told me, face to face, that the police was finding loopholes in the 15 year old girl's story. The lawyer stated that the young girl changed her story 3 times and my son wouldn't be charged with sexual battery/false imprisonment.

On the contrary, the day we went to court we had no idea it was a day of sentencing for Darius. What is more, Darius' lawyer did not appear: he sent a young man from his office that did not know what was going on in the case. He stated that he only knew, the judge would make the decision; which would be 2 years in prison and 4 years probation or 4 years in prison and 2 years probation. We was not informed of no details of the sentence not even that Darius would be labeled as a sexual predator. The judge told him that he wished he had taken the case to trial because he would have given him 30 years. It was by the grace/favor of God that evil judge did not get his claws in my son's life.

Darius served 4 years in prison (from age 14-18). He was then released with 2 years probation. After a year on electronic leg monitor probation, he mistakenly dropped/broke the box which he immediately reported to his probation officer; this led him to be sent back to prison for violation of probation, at the age of 19. In my opinion, this was truly an unjust/harsh act on their part. It seemed as if they were out to get him.

He was released September 2009. Darius and his family has been coping with this matter to the best of their ability and by the strength of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Darius is now 22 years old. He does not have any new charges. It is very difficult for him to obtain a job due to the fact this is on his record. He has been harassed by the Tallahassee Police Department. To be exact, January 2010, Officer Osbourne handcuffed him while he was talking to some friends, took him to the hospital to be x-rayed for drugs up his rectum. The x-ray showed no drugs. My son's driver license (which he must have on him at all times) was lost in the process.

Please support us in petitioning Governor Charlie Christ to revoke this heinous sentence imposed by Tallahassee Florida's court.
