Deforestation Petition

Each year, areas the size of Wales are cut down in trees because of deforestation. If deforestation continues at the current rate, scientists predict that the world's rainforests could vainsh within the next 100 years.

In an attempt to try and stop deforestation, I have created this petition that I would like you to sign because it will be sent off to Gregory Barker MP and Caroline Flint MP (who are both shadow ministers) to support our letters in an attempt to persuade them to try and make an impact on the UK government to play our part in prevnting deforestation. I would like them to do this because deforestation has several effects including contributing to global warming, emitting greenhouse gases, contributes to climate change, reducing oxygen levels and affecting the water cycle.

The idea of my letter is to encourage both Gregory Barker MP and Caroline Flint MP to create schemes or even legislations because they are in authorized positions to do so. One thing I propose for them to do is to encourage businesses within the United Kingdom to use and invest in products that help prevent deforestation. These items should be recycled products or products from replanted trees. I suggest that they should do this because this is an efficient way to reduce deforestation (as products will be recycled) and this could encourage other businesses to replicate these ideas. These businesses could take inspiration from these ideas and could execute them. Furthermore, these ideas could encourage bussinesses abroad to do so. Therefore, on a global scale, we will be reducing deforestation to some extent.

Another idea that I insist the shadow ministers do to try and reduce deforestation is to bring up the issue in parliament. This would be effective because the UK government could as a group, collectively discuss the matter and think of different legislations or schemes that could eventually be enforced. For example, a scheme that they could create is to get local schools within the United Kingdom recycle all excess paper. As part of the scheme, the teachers could also educate their students about the matter so they would have gained more knowledge about deforestation and would understand the importance of recycling paper for example. An example of a legislation they could use would involve forcing businesses within the United Kingdom to only use recycled paper products because then less trees would have to be cut down as there is more paper to be used.

I insist that both Gregory Barker MP and Caroline Flint MP visit schools to educate the students about the matter. This would be an important way of reducing deforestation because the younger generations would understand why it is a global issue and then could potentially do things to try and prevent deforestation by recycling paper for example. Or, the visist could inspire the students to execute campaigns similar to mine to prove that deforestation is a problem for everyone, world wide.

The idea of this petition is to encourage local businesses within the United Kingdom to use and invest in only recycled paper products because this would consequently reduce the number of trees cut down in the process of making more paper as plenty of paper is being recycled.

12 million hectares (an area of 10,000 square meters) are cut down due to urbanization and allied activites every year. By signing this petition, you could help stop deforestation or at least reduce the importancy of the issue.
