Don't ban amplified busking in Galway city.

On July 21st councillor Ollie Crowe of Fianna Fail will propose a ban on amplified busking in Galway city at the city council meeting. Such a ban will not actually address the problem of excessive volume from street performers as non amplified instruments such as various types of drums and brass instruments, bagpipes etc, create much higher volume than amplified vocalists or guitar players. A blanket ban on amplification will have a very negative impact on artictic expression by those who play more mellow or soft types of music such as harpists, classical and flamenco guitarists, pianists and vocalists. Many street musicians depend on moderate amplification to be audable on a bustling pedestrian street such as Shop Street.
