#26 Attendance will suffer again!!!

2011-02-19 04:51

The human body REQUIRES rest and maintenance. The balanced schedule allowed for the breaks that everyone needs to accomplish both. There simply aren't enough after-school hours doctor appointments out there. Do the right thing and allow the original 3 year plan to run its course. Then we can all debate the future of the calendar and the direction Cobb Schools should head next.

#27 The New Old calendar

2011-02-19 04:54

Is it all about money and Six Flags. I thought that we were voting for a balance schedule for all, and not for a business. One teacher stated maybe we need to boycot theme parks during the two week we would be in school. Sounds like a good idea.

#28 Foolish decision

2011-02-19 05:03

I "might" have voted for the August 15 calendar had they not trashed the winter break by releasing students and teachers two days before Christmas. Not everyone celebrates Christmas, but the majority of those who do will have their plans smashed by that move. Two of the calendars had that woeful option included. With the only difference between #2 and #3 being a two-day later start date and a two-day less Thanksgiving break, it seemed clear that the board was poised to make a vote in favor of one of them. Sadly, they gave us the option to voice our opinion with a survey -- and yet again, in spite of the great majority being in favor of calendar #1, they decided they knew better. Perhaps we can get enough signatures on this to make them rethink their decision -- and if not, enough signatures on one or two of the board members to get a recall vote.

#29 Board Powers and Responsibilities

2011-02-19 05:17

Cobb County School Board
BOARD POWERS AND RESPONSIBILITIES BBA 4/15/09
A. ORGANIZATIONAL DIRECTION:
The job of the Cobb County Board of Education (Board) is to represent the citizens and taxpayers of Cobb County in determining and demanding appropriate organizational performance.
1. The Board will produce the link between the organization and the citizens of Cobb County, utilizing appropriate strategies to ensure input from students, staff, parents, and the community as a means to link the entire community.

This is taken directly from the board of education policy for Cobb County School District. The 4 who voted against the balanced calendar obviously disregarded their RESPONSIBILITY to represent the citizens and taxpayers of Cobb County.

#30 What are we teaching our Children?

2011-02-19 05:17

It is a shame that our School Board acted in such a way that our students can not have respect for our leaders in the school system. It is a hard lesson to learn. Why ask them to vote and not take into consideration their voice? Hopefully we as parents, teachers and employees can show them how to stand up for what is right and make a change in something that we believe in. Be the change.

#35 bogus vote

2011-02-19 05:47

CCSD Board members, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Why did you bother to post the survey on the CCSD website, if you were going to ignore it? You should do what is right and vote with the majority of the people to whom you pledged to serve and not to further your own political agendas. The August 1st start date was overwhelmingly the winner based on your own data!

#45 RECALL!

2011-02-19 09:15

I would love to know what we, as the public, have to do to demand the recall of these board members. I agree...it is now not whether or not we have a new calendar in place but the BLATANT disregard for the PUBLIC in this matter. We CANNOT let this matter drop...it is as if we are simply rolling over and allowing this board to do what ever they wish...when CLEARLY this was NOT the wishes of the MAJORITY.

Original vote was for 8/1 start for three years. Have yet to hear or see how starting back 2 weeks is significant savings?

#50 Aug 1st start date

2011-02-19 15:09

Since the kids are already stating in Aug they should be able to et the Aug 1 st breaks. last year they signed a 3 year calendar and we are not even through the first year. The terachers and parents agreed that this is a good calendar for our children so I do not know why it was over turned.
