#76 Lets do something about it

I have called RAEK (the regulatory authority for electricity in Cyprus) and they told me that the Cyprus law allows anyone to generate and SELL electricity. I suggest that we set up a Coop and generate electricity. Anyone interested can contact me at george1970cy@gmail.com

I just wonder why nobody thought about it. The law is there since 2004. Somebody told me that electricity prices are regulated by the parliament and the profit margin is very low. Maybe we can generate electricity from sea waves or the sun and sell to everyone cheaper electricity!!!

Come on join me and we may be millionaires soon!

I also read that in Saudi Arabia the electricity is 4 times cheaper than Cyprus!!!

Come on people you must have low IQ to compare electricity in an isolated island without any oil/gas/coal production with electricity in countries that pay almost nothing to produce electricity.

This ludicrous situation, caused by the most inept president, ever to have held office in any country since elections were ever held is an insult not only to the people being imposed upon but also to the people who died so tragically as a direct result of his cowardice and adherence to his bosses in Russia.

What would happen if all of us stopped paying our electricity bills as a protest to the irreasonable charges...would the authority sue us all?

We believe strongly that the price of electricity is very unfair to all of us .We have compared the electricity Bill of last year and same period of this one and the increase on the current rate is almost 78%.
It is very unfair for a small apartment to pay 850 euros.

Please all sign, we pay the highest amount for electricity than anywhere else in Europe!! We have no other electricity companies to choose from! The Energy also fluctuates and we suffer many power cuts a year. After the main Power Station in Zygi blew up due to the authorities stupidity...we were given free of charge about 9 floating generators from Israel and Greece (Although probably bought favours! We shouldn't need to pay so much...we live in the friggin middle east practicly...resources are everywhere so why such the high cost?

Practically the expenses to produce electricity in an island are so high, no private company is interested in doing so. The monopoly as you say ended 4 years ago and still no one applied. Just to let you know where every euro goes when you pay electricity:
60 cents to fuel
13 cents to vat
2 cents to private generator ( wind generator you see in the fields, ΥΔΩ, ΚΟΔΑΠ, ΑΠΕ)
and last 25cents to AHK.
With that 25 cents AHK his to pay salaries, do maintenance and create power stations. Just name me one company who can survive with 25% profit only. Don't be fooled. Do your own conclusions dont just follow what the others just say.

#93 Correct! Finally some people begin to think first...

1. EAC is just a COLLECTOR of all these taxes for the government!
2. Market is free since 2004. Why should anyone come since 75% OF OUR CURRENT BILL are inavoitable costs???
3. I have seen in the press that EAC is 'begging' to be allowed to bring Gas for the production since 2000! Governements and Parliaments so far do not let this happen.
4. Renewable energy is not cheaper. In your already high bill you are paying a fee (!!!) to subsidize Renewable Energy individual producers and not EAC...

I could have written more but it seems that noone listens. Do your protest against EAC having the same claims as EAC has...

Please stop waisting my money on EAC employees and management GIANT and unfair salary. I saw them "working hard" till 13:30 only 5 days a week. Kick them out. All of this time waisters.

In Italy is also difficult financial situation, but average electricity bill of 3-persons family is abt. 50 EUR monthly including expenses for central heating. What is the problem to connect the cable and buy CHEAP electricity from Italy?

Another example : one of the most corrupted countries is Ukraine. Only 0.025 EUR/KWa they pay for electricity. Compare to 0.27 EUR/KWa in "democratic" and "European" Cyprus. 1100% more expensive here!!! What is that? A joke? Stop it or citizens will force current president and government to follow Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi. Historically that's the only way to stop dictatorship of monopoly.

We cannot afford to pay such high prices for a service and utility so essential and basic because there has been mismanagement on their part

What the EAC and the Cyprus government are doing is extortion. If they do not rethink this stupid move they will cause an uprising. I for one can not afford to pay my bill.
