It is not very wise to stop flights to and from Patras, since tourists may gain easy access to important and very popular tourist attractions situated further south of the city of Patras. I consider direct flights to this city as beneficial to both the residents of the city and the airline companies as well.

Patras has so much to offer: great shopping, traditional tavernas, buzzing nightlife, beaches, history, archaeological sites, scenic villages and a most magnificent sunset. Her highlight, the Carnival which is one of the best in the world, is a experience of a lifetime. Put Patras back on the map by allowing these flights to happen!

From me traveling from the US to Patra, I would pay more money for a ticket to fly to Araxos, instead of Athens. I can be home with family in a lot less time than it is taken right now. A lot of people that travel to Greece and especially the Peloponisos region would fly there. Advertisment would increase the traffic to the Araxos airport. Make this happen!!!!

It'll probably cheaper too! Flights from the US to London are cheaper than Athens -US because of the high taxes Venizelos airport has. From London to Patras, the flights are also cheaper.

Not only does PAtras have potential (especially if the Carnival is marketed correctly) but it is next to Patras & Kyllini ports, which connect to all islands in the Ionian (Kefalonia, Zante, Ithaca etc). Also it connects to the Pelopponese and attractions such as Spetses, Elafonissos, Sparta etc. Luxury hotels are found close by (see costa Navarino).

Finally, Greeks living abroad are increasing dramamticately in view of the crisis but remain strongly connected to their homeland. Flights to Patras would serve the Greeks in London originally from Patras, the island, Pyrgos, Agrinio, Kalamata and even Athens (given the cheaper flight - especially in peak periods such as Christmas).

I personally have flown from the UK to Milan to Patras several times, for a cheaper ticket, although I am originally from Ioannina, which is not as close to Patras as other Greek cities.

I'd love to see this happen. This summer I flew in from Paphos and my experience in Araxos was fantastic, everything was done quickly and I was out of the airport at the most 10 min after my flight arrived. Coming from the US to my hometown is a hassle now, but a connection through the UK would make it a lot easier. My inlaws who are from Kefalonia have to take 4 flights to get there, but if they can fly to Araxos, the port of Kilini is very close for them to take the ferry to Poros.
Lots of tourist attractions will see more crowds, such as Olympia, Delphi, the center of Patras with the carnival and the shopping possibilities, Nafpaktos, as well as the nearby Ionian islands. With the new connection of Patras to Ioannina, I'm sure some traffic will be directed through the Araxos airport, since Ioannina will be only a two hour drive soon. Finally, Patras having a major port with connections to Italy will attract some of the back-packers traffic especially if the tickets are cheaper than other cities. The same holds for tourists wanting to visit the rest of Greece, since with the Rio bridge and the upcoming highway and train infrastructure will allow tourists to actually see the many beautiful "corners" of Greece that are missing from any tourist guide; this will enhance their overall experience and make them come again because there's clearly more to see. Thanks for this petition and good luck!
