golden compass hbo series

Have you ever seen an HBO original series? Have you ever been disappointed with the way their series are directed, or the end result of the production?

After having been thoroughly let down by the Golden Compass movie, my feeling is that HBO would be our best bet to see the story treated with dignity. I'm proposing 1 series for each book (maybe 2 series, or extended episodes, for the third book).

I feel "His Dark Materials" shouldn't be considered a PG-13 Christmas movie. It's not a feel good family movie. It has a beautifully elaborate plot and it tackles very delicate subjects such as philosophy, religion, child abduction, murders, political intrigue and more. In order to see the story unravel nicely, even if they were to pick up the original big screen project again, three movies would not be sufficient.

I loved those books and really hope someone manages to successfully adapt the trilogy for the compelling series it deserves.
