Integrated School Transport

Bassaleg School - Newport City Council

In 2013 Integrated School Transport charged £45 for the year 12's for school transport but yet year 13's the final and most important year of a child's life is astonishing price of £497 but with £150 reduced leaving £347 to be paid for a year, However if you visit Cardiff City Bus or Newport Bus a fixed annual fee is £420 which means you can catch as many buses as you want as often as you like. Compared to a service that works as taxi service. I understand insurance and diesel can be quite high but if 2 children from the same family are going to year 13 then can you honestly afford £1000 for a service that operates an average of 36 weeks of the year?

I for one would be willing to operate ideas for various alternatives such as , Car sharing, Mini bus hire, Walking, Escort service as I feel that if we gave in and paid the £500 then what will it be for the next generation? The Government will fine us the parents if our children do not attend school yet they wish to charge an average of 2 weeks working person wages.

Lets see if we can get 1000 signatures on this petition and maybe the school transport to reconsider as we the parents were given NO warning about the rise of fees as well as our children are already stressed enough with they exams let alone the fear of having to drop out due to un-affordable bus fee's

If the Ingrated School Transport will not take any action then maybe we should all voice our concern and get the media on our side

please sign if you agree

Especially as the deadline for the payment / registration is 30th May 2014 and then we are not guaranteed a seat even if our forms are filled in.

Lets act now, Lets fight the Integrated greeedy transport as our children future shouldn't have a price on they heads lets alone have more added stress
