Music in St James Park Shaftesbury Gold Hill Fayre Weekend

Since the early 80s, St. James' park had hosted a free live music concert every year, bringing together hundreds of people from different backgrounds and of all ages.

For fourteen years there was very little trouble

At the fair in 2001 the Police Inspector in charge was spoken to at 10pm on the Sunday night. He said he was pleased and that there had been very few problems. Unfortunately, two minor incidents then occurred and his view totally changed. The police subsequently issued recommendations for future fairs. These were: no beer tent, the park fenced off, charges on entry registered  security, and a £5000 contribution to Police costs. A cost too high for a free event

We the under signed would like to petition the PCC Martyn Underhill, to reopen the files on this case to present at a public meeting the evidence of the problems that caused and the reasonings behind  the conditions imposedby the Police. Those which have effectively stopped this free event from happening. We support music on the Hilland request that the PCC recommends that those restrictions are lifted so that the event can restart in 2015.
