PETITION & CALL TO ACTION FROM THE WAIROA HAPU SETTLEMENT TRUST

HE WAKA PUPŪ, HE WAKA WAWAO,TŪ, TŪ KARANGATĀ!

PETITION & CALL TOACTION FROM THE WAIROA HAPU SETTLEMENT TRUST

On behalf of NGĀTI KAHU, NGĀTI RANGI AND NGĀTI PANGO

Many of you would have received a letter from the Ngati Ranginui Iwi PSGE informing you that they have dismissed the mandated Wairoa hapu representative from the Iwi PSGE. The representative is our Kaumatua and long time advocate of ALL Wairoa Hapu, Te Ruruanga Te Keeti.

This is the result of a long process in which we feel adamant that Wairoa hapu have been totally undermined and disrespected.  Here are the facts:

  1. In August 2013 the Iwi PSGE sent letters to registered members of Wairoa Hapu informing them of issues they have with the
mandated representative of Wairoa Hapu Te Ruruanga Te Keeti.  It was alleged in that letter that Te
Ruruanga had brought the Iwi into disrepute and sited a few examples of where
they had believed this to occur.
  2. In September a Hui a Hapu was called and Te
Ruruanga fronted the hapu and provided his perspective, which was supported by
other key hapu members.  The result of
    this hui was
a. Unanimous support from all three Hapu for Te Ruruangab. That a support group be established to meet with the Iwi PSGE to seek a positive
resolution. Try to sort the matter through a tikanga based process
c. THE HAPU WERE CONVINCED THAT THIS WAS NOTHING MORE THAN A WITCH HUNT!! Following a meeting with the Iwi PSGE, the hapuwere informed that the PSGE would continue on the path they had started NO RESOLUTION Another set of elections were held by the Hapu, where Te Ruruanga received a resounding majority vote to retain his position. Negotiations between legal representativesfailed, despite concessions and an inference that a solution had been reached. NO RESOLUTION In November, Kaumatua of Ngati Ranginui expressed their concerns to the Iwi PSGEand also requested that the PSGE rethink their approach towards a Tikanga basedresolution.  NO RESOLUTION

Despite the above steps to find a positive solution, the Iwi
PSGE still decided to serve a letter of dismissal from the Iwi PSGE to our
Kaumatua Te Ruruanga on 30th October 2013 at 5pm.

Finally, a second letter was sent to ALL registered beneficiaries of Wairoa Hapu informing us all of the decision made by the Iwi PSGE and outlining their process to elect a new representative for Wairoa Hapu on the Iwi PSGE.  Their letters were distributed out to all registered beneficiaries of Wairoa Hapu without prior notice given to the Wairoa Settlement Trust and Wairoa Hapu beneficiaries.

OUR HAPU HAVE BEEN UNDERMINED BY THIS PAKEHA PROCESS AND LACK OF ADHERANCE TO TIKANGA

THEREFORE, AS YOUR ELECTED AND MANDATED SETTLEMENT TRUST WE URGENTLY SEEK YOUR SUPPORT AND ASK THAT YOU REFRAIN FROM PARTICIPATING IN THE ELECTION PROCESS

Through this petition we seek your support to deliver a letter to the Iwi PSGE to:

  1. CEASE AND DESIST THEIR NOMINATION PROCESS IMMEDIATELY
  2. ADVISE THE IWI PSGE THAT THE NGATI RANGINUI IWI PSGE DOES NOT HAVE THE MANDATE FROM THE WAIROA HAPU TO UNDERTAKE THIS PROCESS ON OUR BEHALF
  3. THAT THE WAIROA HAPU HAVE ENDORSED, RE-ELECTED AND CONTINUE TO SUPPORT TE RURUANGA TE KEETI
  4. WAIROA HAPU DENOUNCES THE PROCESS AND LACK OF ADHERENCE TO TIKANGA AS ABHORRENT
  5. THAT WAIROA HAPU HAVE LOST ALL CONFIDENCE IN THE IWI PSGE
  6. WE, WAIROA HAPU BELIEVE THAT THE IWI PSGE HAVE BROUGHT NGATI RANGINUI IWI INTO DISREPUTE
