RESOLUTION TO RE-ESTABLISH THE KANSAS STATE GUARD

A RESOLUTION urging the Governor of the State of Kansas to recognize, revitalize and re-establish the Kansas State Guard for the Security of our Free State due to the ongoing domestic and foreign threats to our people and to our communites in this State.

Whereas, the Constitution of the State of Kansas recognizes the militia as being composed of all able-bodied male citizens between the ages of twenty-one and forty-five years, except those exempted by law; and

Whereas, the Governor is the commander-in-chief thereof, and has power to call out the militia to execute the laws, to suppress insurrection, and to repel invasion; and

Whereas, the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution declares that a well-regulated militia is necessary to the security of a free state; and

Whereas, the Kansas Bill of Rights guarantees the right of the people, individually, to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, home and state, and to assemble, in a peaceable manner, to consult for their common good; and

Whereas, the laws of this state provide that the Governor may organize and maintain a “Kansas State Guard” as a volunteer force whenever any part of the Kansas National Guard is in active federal service;

Now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, that we ask the Governor of the State of Kansas to recognize the militia as a time-honored civic institution comprised of the whole people, and to organize and maintain the Kansas State Guard as a volunteer force to provide security for our Free State, to support and defend the Constitution of our State and to Execute the Constitutional Laws of our Union.
