Save Peacehaven Infant School

East Sussex County Council have agreed at a meeting on 8th June 2011 to enter into a consultation to amalgamate Peacehaven Infant School & Hoddern Junior School.  This, if successful, will mean both schools close and re open under a new name as an all through primary school.

The County's main argument for this is that children get better results at all through primary schools.  If the amalgamation goes ahead the new primary school will remain on 2 sites at Roderick/Edith Avenue ( Infant Site) and Hoddern Avenue (Junior Site), this weakens the strongestd argument as children will still need to move sites when they progress from Infant to Junior.  Peacehaven Infant school already has strong links with Hoddern School as they are our feeder school, staff work closely together on a number of projects and initiatives and the transition programme for children moving to the Junior school is very good and has been noted by Ofsted as being very effective.

Ofsted have judged the Infant School as a "Good " school with elements of "outstanding"- this is down to the tireless work and commitment of the experienced and long standing staff.  The Infant school has a unique caring ethos which is imperative for an Infant school and those first few years of a child's schooling.  Families have commented for years that this is a particular strength.

The legislation that was brought in in November 2010 which enables the County Council to seek to run a consultation process has seen 2 other East Sussex schools go through this process since its inception.  Of these 2 cases one case for amalgamation was accepted and one rejected.  In the rejected case it was stated that one of the main reasons for rejection was the clear lack of support!

We need your SUPPORT!!  Families of children past, present & future can sign this petition along with staff, governors and other members of the community.  The Governing Body and staff are fully supportive of the rejection of the amalgamtion.  We need your help to support this.  Don't let Peacehaven Infant school be lost forever.
