Save The Beech Tree!

The Beech Tree has been conditionally sold to a retail company with future plans to host a Convenience Store on the premises. It is, as yet, unknown whether the plans include demolishing the historical building. If this sale and development is permitted, our comminity will lose it's most prominent feature. Even if you don't use the pub personally, please support it's preservarion anyway for several reasons:

1. Barnton hosts a Spar Garage, a Co-Op, a Nisa and two general stores run by local people. In addition, we have a local butcher, Hormbrey's, two Chemists and a Post Office. Another store is not needed.

2. The above shops will lose a lot of business and risk closing permanently if a commercial Convenience Store is permitted.

3. Barnton has two pubs and a club. The Cricket Club is "Members Only", The Barn Owl is largely a Sports Pub and The Beech Tree was scheduled to be completely refurbished to offer quality dining, something Barnton is very much lacking.

4. The local residents the use the pub have been doing so for many years, several decades in some cases. The bowling green is a prized Community Asset.

5. The building itself is a historical beauty. 8 months ago, it was taken on by Mike Robinson of Winnington and Michelle Johnson of Barnton with the absolute intention of restoring it to it's former glory as the hub of the Community.

6. In recent months, there have been many events raising funds for various charities. Several local bands have used the venue to entertain locals. There has been no trouble on or around the premises and those that frequent the pub have been respectful and supportive.

There are many more reasons to save this lovely pub; so please, please take a moment to sign this petition. With enough support, we may be able to convey the needs of the Community to the "Decision Makers". Every signature counts!
