STOP Abbeyfield causing significant harm to the Tilsmore Area (Appeal Decision)

In 2015 Abbeyfield submitted a planning application to develop the Abbeyfield/Holdenhurst/Gray Court Site situated in the Tilsmore Area of Heathfield. The original application was objected to by many local residents and The Parish Council. Then WDC Planning Committee refused it. Abbeyfield then took the decision to appeal but the Appeal Inspector dismissed it saying 'it would cause significant harm to the character and appearance of the area'.

Abbeyfield have submitted a revised planning application for the site.  The planning application ref. WD/2016/1724/MAJ can be viewed on line at Wealden District Council Planning.

  • The revised application is not significantly different.
  • It does not take into account the Appeal Planning Inspectors report.
  • Only reduces the number of apartments from 51 to 48 which is not enough of a reduction to the bulk and mass of the development.
  • The frontage onto Mill Road remains 3 storeys high (and 5 storeys to the back elevation) which means its design continues to be out of keeping, and would dominate the area.
  • The bulk and design are still inappropriate for the size of the site and the design does not reflect the character of the Tilsmore area.
  • Not only will it be viewed by many neighbours who surround the site but due to its situation at the top of the hill it will appear in far reaching views across Heathfield.

Local peoples letters of objection really helped our case last time so if you wish to write, comment via the website or sign this petition so that we can keep the Tilsmore Area as it is.  We really appreciate the support. Thank you.
