Urge the State of Idaho to Protect Its Breastfeeding Mothers from Humiliation

back.jpg

The Goal. To keep breastfeeding mothers in Idaho safe against shaming and discrimination.

The Problem. The last state to implement laws aimed at protecting nursing mothers against harassment while breastfeeding in public is Idaho. As such, mothers in Idaho can nourish their young in the most natural way possible, but they can do nothing if anybody shames them for doing so. All across the state women get harassed or asked to leave restaurants all because some people believe breastfeeding in public is indecent or inappropriate. This ignorance and lack of compassion only results in the child getting denied sustenance.

In short, mothers gain very little benefit from laws that have no teeth if nothing can done to keep them safe from harassment and discrimination while breastfeeding in public.

The Solution. If nursing mothers in Idaho are to be kept free from harassment and discrimination, provisions must be made for the law to have the ability to enforce punishment against anyone who would shame or publicly harass nursing mothers.

To deny nursing mothers the option to breastfeed whenever and wherever necessary is utterly inhumane. An enforcement provision should be an effective way to protect a breastfeeding mother’s right to nurse her child in a public setting.

Breastfeeding in public remains a controversial issue that affects hundreds if not thousands of nursing mothers all across the state. Join us and let us help nursing mothers in Idaho enjoy the same privilege that other women across the country already do.
