Where is my SSAF money going?

Background Information

Student Tax (SSAF) – But Where is Your Money Going?

The SRC understands that it can be extremely frustrating for students to pay another university fee in the form of the Student Services Amenities Fee (SSAF).

At all campuses (except the Gold Coasta) the revenue from the fee has been split between the SRC and Campus Life.  The SRC's portion of the revenue went to fund all our events and programs.  However the SRC believes the majority of the revenue associated with SSAF has remained with Griffith University, Campus Life.

The SRC has been advocating and lobbying for MONTHS for Griffith University to publically release the following information:

  • The total amount of revenue Griffith University has received from the SSAF?
  • The percentage of the SSAF revenue that went to the SRC, in comparison to Campus Life?
  • Exactly what the Campus Life portion of the SSAF revenue has been spent on or allocated to be spent on into the future?

Unfortunately the SRC has not received any answers to above questions or any time-frame regarding when these questions will be answered. But clearly we’ve paid the fee THIS semester and you should know what benefit you have received!

Further the SRC met with the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Admin on a number of occasions and submitted applications on where the SRC thought it would be best to spend the SSAF to benefit students. Clearly due to the lack of funding the SRC received that some of our ideas could not be implemented. However we want to know whether Griffith University plans to spend any of the money it has kept on the ideas stated in our SSAF documents.

The SRC requests now and  into the future that Griffith University is more transparent with its expenditure of SSAF, as clearly this is student money and students need to see a benefit, otherwise why should we pay?

Many other Universities across Australia have been open about their SSAF revenue and the expenditure. So it’s time that Griffith University did the same.

The SRC if fed up with the response from Griffith University and we have started an online petition. We urge students to sign this petition in order for the Griffith University administration to understand that it can’t just levy fees on students without explaining where students money is being spent.

Petition

This semester I paid a Student Services Amenities Fee. I would like to know where my money has been spent. I believe that Griffith University should publically release the following information (which the SRC has been lobbying for to be released):

  • The total amount of revenue Griffith University has received from the SSAF?
  • The percentage of the SSAF revenue that went to the SRC, in comparison to Campus Life?
  • Exactly what the Campus Life portion of the SSAF revenue has been spent on or allocated to be spent on into the future?
