Change Lawton's I-4 Zoning Ordinance Verbiage

Hereto signed, the communities and homeowners in and around Lawton, Oklahoma, hold a deep investment in our tranquil neighborhoods. Our health, homes, and the environment represent our greatest investments. Existing residential communities must have a safe buffer of at least 1500 yards between existing homes and any new request for rezoning to I-4 Heavy Industrial zones.  

It is known that industries inherently pose risks to the surrounding areas.
 
Examples of heavy industrial zones include, but are not limited to:
Power Plants
Airports
Mining Facilities
Construction of Large Buildings
Chemical Plants
 
We support every precaution to ensure safe distances of Heavy Industry from communities and residents. Not only should forward thought and consideration be anticipated for health risks, safety, noise, vibration, pollution, and hazards during daily operation but also in preparation for catastrophic damage and long-term effects as well.
 
We support the potential growth and economic diversity of Lawton.
 
We support preserving the character and safety of our neighborhoods and object to industrial growth within Lawton's city limits.
 
We support adherance to Lawton City Oridnances to separate residential and commercial areas from Heavy Industrial Zones at a distance of 1500 yards, so as not to impede upon the health, safety, and enjoyment of communities during daily operations and in consideration of catastrophic mishaps. 
 
We oppose rezoning of any land adjacent to or between residential properties to I-4 Heavy Industry.
 
We urge decision-makers to consider the long-term impacts on our communities and add verbiage to Lawton City Ordinance, Division 18-6-17 - I-4 Heavy Industrial District ,18-6-17-680 - General description, stating no land within 1500 yards of residential homes may be rezoned to I-4 Heavy Industry.
 
We endorse added verbiage to the Lawton City Ordinance, Division 18-6-17 - I-4 Heavy Industrial District ,18-6-17-680 - General description, to state no land within 1500 yards of current residences may be eligible for rezoning to I-4 Heavy Industrial zoning.
