Makes me sick the absolute cruelty that the human race can inflict on another creature whose love is given unconditionally.

This will be done on "pups less than 4 days of age". Blind because they are too young to have their eyes open. Unable to defend themselves and still with their mother, so if the 'op' goes wrong and becomes infected, it might never be treated, go unnoticed and the pup be deformed or die. Because I think its likely that anyone prepared to do this to a pup, will also be unlikely to take to a vet for antibiotic treatment. All for cheapness, life is cheap.

The greater percentage of dogs are family pets including working breeds. This leaves a very small percentage of working dogs in need of tail docking, most tail docking is done for appearance's only and cause's untold damage sometimes even spinal or death through infection. Our understanding through much research is the percentage of working dog's receiving tail injuries while working is very low, compared to botch operations to remove the tail. These operation's or butchering to be more accurate are being done to pup's from the day they are being born and sold on as family pets not working dog's. It is needless suffering.

I have a Jack Russell Bitch who had her tail broken during docking. When we got her she was terrified of anyone touching her. Heartbreaking. Its just too cruel. Unnecessary pain is inflicted even when done right.

#564 Acts of barbarity

I cannot believe the stupidity of politicians. They are forever making insane laws and then realise that the public are against it - then they do a U turn. Vets are prohibited from performing this insane barbarity why would you let someone without any medical experience loose with a law that allows for such torture. Ireland already has one of the most dreadful reputations in Europe for animal cruelty - the politicians are not happy with that but want to inflict more. I really believe it is time for a REVOLUTION - stand up and say you do not agree. Where and when is the march going to take place I want to be in on the action.

This barbaric practice belongs in the dark ages. We are supposed to be civilized but it seems there are some people who prove the missing link still exists.

Minister Covney's father as I recall drowned as he tried to retrieve his beloved dogs I wonder if he were alive today and say what his son has done or not done as the case may be would he agree.I think it's a barbaric and medieval act and for a country that makes it's living from animals we sure know how to mistreat them.We should be ashmed of ourselves or at least Mr. Covney should.

I would just like to say to Minister Coveney that his decision to allow the BARBARIC act of tail docking on dogs in Ireland is an absolute disgrace and he should be ashamed of himself. I am sure he has claimed to be an animal lover in the past, well if that is what he thinks an animal lover does then he has a lot to learn. This is a barbaric and Medieval practice which is of no benefit to the dog - all it does is put the poor animal in horrendous pain, and for what?, because Mininster Coveney has said it is OK to do it. IT IS NOT OK TO DO IT and the more people who signs this petition and gets the message across to Minister Coveney the better.

This proposed legislation is supposed to be on Animal Health & Welfare, disgraceful that the author(s) deem docking to be healthy etc. Banning outright would be the correct option.

I think it's absolutely disgusting that anyone would make that ok. I know for sure that if people have the power to do it there will be no holding them back. :( people who will be delighted to cut of a dogs tail to see it suffer and it makes me sick!

Absolutely ridiculous.. Our country is backwards. Should have been banned in the first place. Those poor dogs. I don't think the minister would like something being chopped off on him.. This has to be banned.
