On a personal note, I have fond memories of Woodbridge Village center and know that it is one of the few older things in Irvine that actually has some character. On a professional note, as an architectural historian, I toured it recently with a group of colleagues as an academic study of 1970s city planning. Although not quite 50 years old, I believe the Center could be considered historically significant. It is certainly the centerpiece of an archetypical planned community and was designed by William Periera, a significant architect. Removing the Village Center would be removing a critical element of a neighborhood that is dependent on an organized plan and cohesive design intent. It is some of the city's earliest development and should be retained.

Good point about it being an archetypical planned community!  I didn't know that it was designed by William Periera.  Thanks for that tidbit
