The sentence reflects finally not just the crime but the circumstances. Justice is aware that increasingly there are more, what you would call, mainstream, upstanding persons finding themselves caught. Serving soldiers in iraq, police officers, teachers, etc etc. Access to child pornography is just a few clicks away for these people. P2P file sharing means that individuals have an exposure to types of pornography never dreamt of just a few years ago. On social networking sites and sites like "My ex girlfriend.com" the indecent images of underage girls is not unusual. This general numbing of what is acceptable is pervasive in society and computers reinforce the idea of moral disposability, elasticity.

I am NOT condoning the actions of people who download and view these images but I am trying too say it is too easy to have a knee jerk reaction. The attitude is of suprise!, how could this happen by us?. It's very easy, we are all human. "There but for the grace of god go I"

I have four boys who have grown up during the last 12 years. They have all got there own laptops now but over those years they used file sharing networks like kazza, Limewire, Frostwire, etc. You can browse other peoples saved files when downloading. It was always suprising what some kid in New Hampshire would have, saved casually as if it meant nothing.

Pornography is the biggest generator of traffic on the internet, with the biggest revenue. In life, we all are all restricted in what we do, for the benefit of others and ourselves. Speed cameras to stop you killing yourself or somebody else, gun laws and there restictions, the prevention of the sale of harmful substances. These laws are everywhere and visibly policed.

I'm sorry but suprisingly good people can sucumb to something, that they never would have normally, if it was not for the internet. This has to be taken into account. We all look at road traffic pile ups as much as we try not to, oblivious to the plight of the victims, dead or injured. We do this with a morbid curiosity.

And as for the manifestation of these people in society, sorry, 9/10 victims know there abusers, the crimes come to light AFTER they have been committed and they are usually family members.

I challenge people to think a little about this. Hate the evil, not the person, very different things
