Having meet the man whilst staying with friends, a nicer man you would be hard to meet. He often looks out for the frail and elderly during his rounds and always has a smile for everyone. having served this community for over 27 years the stance of the Royal mail just goes to show the contempt they hold their staff. Yes it was an accident. No one injured or damage occurred. Yet they say someone could have been killed. It rolled a metre or so? really who was at the " crime scene" to measure. Just another conglomerate trying to belittle an employee and oust him from from the love of his Job and his pride of being well respected in this close community. Think about it ROYAL MAIL the way you treat staff the royal cypher should be removed because of your petty minded bureaucrats.

I'm appalled at how our lovely postie Jim has been treated by Royal Mail. It is a disgrace, how on earth can someone be sacked because he "could" have caused injury. That is like sending someone to prison in case "they may" kill someone at some point. Totally ludicrous, and very much unfair dismissal. Jim is far and away the best postie that we have ever had and although his round did not include our address recently we still miss him. Royal Mail should really stop and consider what on earth it is that they are doing. Rather than sack him on a technicality they should be elevating him to the position of a role model and exemplar for all posties. First of all as a former Postman in Taunton I know how most times you were rushing around to finish your round so leaving the handbrake off is understandable. Second, no damage was done to the other vehicle so being fired is completely over the top. I feel perhaps a verbal reprimand would have been sufficient. Then the public seem to be behind this young man so that in itself says a lot. Jim was our postman for years before he was moved to our neighbouring village, We were so upset! Jim is the very best postman ever -- nothing was too much trouble for him, he helped old people, he always has a cheery smile.. he is the nicest and kindest man. He makes Postman Pat look bad! It is very shocking that Royal Mail have sacked this wonderful person because of ONE minor prang over 28 years of sterling service. And before Christmas, at that! He has a family! I have seen much more serious post van accidents, and the driver didn't lose his job! Could it be that RM is looking to sack postmen who are nearing 30 years service because their pensions would be 'too costly' for RM? What a disgrace! Come on, Scrooge --please reconsider the very bad decision to sack Jim and re-instate him promptly. You really got it wrong this time, and we are all very upset and sad for him.

I'm shocked at this news! For me Jim has epitomised the perfect postie. He was always friendly to everyone, never complaining, no matter how big the parcels were, and would often go out of his way to deliver the perfect service. Can't think of anything negative to say about such a genuine and considerate guy who made Royal Mail look fantastic in my eyes! He's a huge part of and asset to the community too.
