Cover up! Petition

#201

I got 201 students at my school to sign a petition and it was shut down before the VP even read it.

My school has a similar dress code, and the students at my school are working to take off that dress code.

(Mill Valley , 2017-05-19)

#203

Because I have a daughter! The school is sending the wrong message!

(Orono, 2017-05-19)

#205

Because even in Separate Schools faculty are so strict about how the uniform is worn yet they can wear whatever they wish. Judges don't help either with their unfair rulings on sexual harrassment

(Mississauga, 2017-05-19)

#209

I should be able to wear what I want with out being scared to go to school

(Whitby, 2017-05-19)

#210

i feel we should not be sexualized based on our shoulders or stomachs

(brooklin, 2017-05-19)

#211

Women keep need to fight the fight.

(Whitby, 2017-05-19)

#212

The first time I ever broke the dress code and wore a tank top on the hottest day I myself have been asked to change my shirt which was unexeptable considering I wasn't showing anything innaproprite for school, I don't understand how shoulders can be "distracting" others

(Ashburn , 2017-05-19)

#218

the dress code objectivies women and makes people sweat more and makes them uncomfortable in what i and others wear and being uncomfortable doesnt allow me to concentrate on my work therefore doing bad in school

(whitby, 2017-05-19)

#219

im signing because i agree with all of the points stated above.

(brooklin , 2017-05-19)

#221

Reasons stated above

(Uxbri, 2017-05-19)

#223

I'm signing because I'm a male dancer in a class of 15 other girls, and I want them to be treated the same way as I am. Also, this heat is terrible, being expected to have skin covered everywhere in this weather is insane.

(Oshawa, 2017-05-19)

#226

I believe the school in question has a dress code policy that is unrealistic in todays society. I also do not agree to the ways the administration goes about enforcing the code. Centering out and shaming the students is wrong.

(Brooklin, 2017-05-19)

#227

It's unfair to girls that there's so many rules for the way we dress when we can't even buy clothing that we like that fits dress code.

(Whitby, 2017-05-19)

#230

I'm signing because as a transgender AFAB person, I am disgusted and unfairly targeted by outdated, sexist, dress codes.

(Ajax, 2017-05-19)

#231

I agree!

(Oshawa, 2017-05-19)

#232

As a male student I do see the target tha the female students have on them and see this as a problem

(Uxbridge , 2017-05-19)

#233

I'm signing this because going to school everyday having to think that for some reason I have an impact on a guys learning. No. The ats wrong. I should be able to wear what I want when I want. Because all school is for us learning.

(Oshawa, 2017-05-19)

#238

dress codes promote rape culture

(Uxbridge, 2017-05-20)

#250

i believe in all that is being fought here

(oshawa, 2017-05-20)

#252

im signing bc the dresscode is a buncha bs

(oshawa, 2017-05-20)

#257

My school is the same way and it is infuriating that girls have to cover up while boys can wear tanks and such.the weather is getting warmer and schools don't always turn the ac on.

(Amarillo, 2017-05-20)

#258

It is ridiculous that we are essentially being targeted and blamed for "boys being distracted". How come boys can low ride and wear muscle tanks but we can't expose our shoulders. And that whole rule that our bra straps can't show... would they rather us not wear bras because I think that would be 10 times more distracting. It's the 21st century and it's now time for a change!

(Brooklin, ON, 2017-05-20)

#262

The dress code needs to be changed for all ddsb schools. I don't agree with the fact that shoulders need to be covered just because they are a 'distraction'. Being able to wear what we want is a right, and although I agree that there should be a dress code, I don't agree with obssered statements saying how womens' shoulders are a distraction.

(Whitby, 2017-05-20)

#263

I once was told to cover my shoulders, but the only sweater I had was an old flame sweater (beer company). I'm pretty sure wearing clothes promoting alcohol is against the rules, but do you think I heard anything about it? No, just that my bra strap was showing.

(Whitby, 2017-05-20)

#265

Women and girls were always targeted in dress codes. It's ridiculous and it should end. The days Where women were checked for the height of their swimsuits from their knees in the beginning of the last century are gone with the last century and not welcomed back

(Toronto, 2017-05-21)

#268

My school dress code is pretty unfair too, so I understand how it makes girls feel

(Tulsa, 2017-05-21)

#269

I fully agree with the opinion of the ddsb dress code being unfair to young women. This dress code teaches girls that their main purpose is to ensure that their daily activities or wardrobes do not interfere with the learning of their classmates, specifically males. Instead of forcing women to conform, maybe men should be taught that a girls body is not for their entertainment.

(Oshawa, 2017-05-21)

#273

My shoulders shouldn't be an issue to male classmates or male teachers. If there is a male teacher who is distracted by my body he should not be working in a school and boys should be able to control themselves, just as girls do.

(Oshawa, 2017-05-21)

#274

The dress code conduct, should not discriminate against females.

(Belleville , 2017-05-21)

#278

The DDSB dress code is outdated, unreasonable and irrelevant to the education system, yet still widely enforced. The problem isn't about teenagers dressing "provocatively" or "revealing", it's about traditionalists who forget what century they're living in sexualizing female students when they wear what makes them feel confident and comfortable. I do think dress codes are needed in schools but not like this. Students have been complaining about the frivolous dress code for years and it's time the DDSB actually changes it

(Whitby, 2017-05-22)

#279

I feel the exact same way and would love to see a change in the dress code that's less targeted towards females!

(Oshawa, 2017-05-22)

#281

I completely disagree with school dress codes. It degrades girls for their body when many others have seen the rest elsewhere

(Mentor, 2017-05-24)

#282

I don't think showing shoulders is inappropriate

(Brooklin , 2017-05-24)

#287

I hate the dress code

(Brooklin, 2017-05-29)

#291

because i shouldn't be told how i should dress on a 30 degree day. my shoulder don't distract boys, maybe we should teach boys to be men.
