My neighbour's house was broken into during Easter weekend. They have adt armed response but that didn't even scare these criminals. That's how brave the criminals have become.

We as the residents of Kempton park west we require visible policing and protection from the SAPS as the South African constitution stipulates. It should not to be left to us the community only to protect ourselves.

There is an unacceptable level of crime in the area and shows no sign of decreasing. This is despite the efforts of the CPF in the Sectors 1,2 & 3. Most CPF members work during the daylight hours and apart from the criminal elements commiting crime at all times of the day the response times for SAPS attendance is unacceptable. I am sure that a lot of crime goes unreported due to poor response times and shortage of staff resulting in the public shrugging off reporting.

All people have the right to be safe in their homes, and communities. It is a disgrace that people are scared to walk down the road, to go to the shops or let their children play in the park because of thugs and crime. What is the point of a police force if they are not policing, protecting and serving the people. That is the calling of every police force in the world. To serve and protect.

Because l feel very strongly about more visible policing, they get paid by our tax paying public.

It is exactly one year today that three robbers with fireams entered our family home on a peaceful afternoon. One of them with dreadlocks severely beat up my 90-year old mother-in-law with a hunting rifle, another pointed his pistol at me and forced me to lie face down on the floor, tied me up and robbed three of us by force, including my wife and daughter. The young children were terribly traumatised and my grand daughter is still on edge every time she has to exit our yard.  NOTHING has been heard since from any policeman! My sincere admiration and congratulations go to the resident in De Villiers Ave who managed to out-gun the two attackers that took on him and his friend - I wish that I had or may still get such an opportunity to ensure the dead certain future of some barbaric perpetrators who don't deserve to remain alive.

I have hardly seen officers in our neighbourhood this year inspite of the spike in violent crimes such as hijackings and house break-ins.
I watched my neighbour die in front of my eyes last year - Oom Martiens Bann. The crimes have not decreased since this sad incident, but police presence remains sporadic, and we live in our homes in fear.
When we take matters into our own hands were are arrested and victimised. If the police force are not going to do what they are paid to do, what are we to do?
