The state of the park is a disgrace to the council. We dont ask for much (or get much) in patcham. Sort it out please. Lets see how green the green party are !

Not only the lilac beds but also the other shrubbery beds, containing berberis, cotoneaster, hydrangea and other flowering shrubs and trees need professional care; they are being overrun with self-sown ash, elder and brambles. One day a week would be enough, and the Friends could help him/her when they had time.

Withdean Park provides a wonderful resource for families and indeed people of all ages who live locally. However, it must also be recognised as a rich and important place for those who live across the city and the region. Its importance nationally as regards the Lilac collection provides clear evidence as to how vital it is to provide proper regular professional care for the facility as a whole.

With some improved care, we might restore the status of the park to its former "National" glory, which would be a worthwhile investment for the Council in the reputation of the city as a whole and its attraction to tourists.

The contribution made by the work of a regular gardener can be clearly seen in other city parks. With such an important collection of plants, Withdean Park is an obvious candidate for such a service. Considering how much Brighton & Hove relies on its amenities to attract visitors; not to mention the benefit such open spaces bring to local residents, the provision of a gardener to Withdean should be seen as essential.

Years ago Withdean park used to have flower beds (especially roses) as well as the Lilac collection. There was one gardener who used to look after the park rain or shine. It is now a disgrace and I cannot understand how Brighton Council can ignore this beautiful park!! It is the first think tourists see driving into Brighton on the A23. I have lived in Peacock Lane for 30 years and it's heart breaking!!
