I've support the idea of a community driven, affordable and accountable tax system on Six Nations but I will not support a tax that is administered by and accountable to Canada through the Indian Act.

Why would the elected Council even consider taxation at all? Makes one wonder what is in it for them. They are certainly not thinking of our future generations that want to hold up our First Nations rights.

If there are going to be any taxes that are being paid by our people, it is my thoughts and feeling that these taxes should be going directly to our government to help with the many families that are living in poverty on our reserves.

This petition and the hard copies circulating the communities were presented at the Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council this past Saturday, there will be a letter drafted to address these matters, our goal is to reach 5000 and give the Chiefs the opportunity to send a copy of these signatures along with the letter :)

people need to remember the fiduciary responsibility this colonial system has to us. This is recognized in the so call defacto Corp-Canada government. They have a responsibility to honour the Two Row and keep us out of their system. Just look it up and check it out. People need to wake up and learn what they have kept from us for so long. The solution is simple but also complicated.

If on-reserve taxation were to come to fruition then we might as well say hello to income tax. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. Enkiron Iah!

In my meager opinion, all Six Nations members should be tax immune whether they live on or off the "reserve lands". Some of us, through no fault of our own, live off the Territories that are the "reserve". We have purchased homes on the track that is our traditional territories and pay taxes for these homes. Taxes that are being collected by municipalities within the lands that were promised to us for our perpetual care and maintenance and which are charged for services to these properties and yet none of this money goes back to our nation Council. I for one thinks this should change and that the same rights to tax immunity should apply to all of those members living on our lands whether they are on the reserve or not. Contrary to the popular belief of the mainstream society, we all pay taxes, on employment earnings, on homes, on day to day purchases, on hydro and heat delivered to our homes, on everything. Canada needs to wake up and follow through with the promises they made, end of discussion.

we don't pay taxes on reserves; they should be paying US tax, and the monies they owe US, for stealing the land that is still ours, under treaty...
