The outrage being expressed by local members of the Virginia General Assembly over the contract to build the new Elizabeth River tunnel connecting Norfolk and Portsmouth falls on deaf ears. How can they possibly vote for House Bill 1253 which creates another unelected body that will also be hiding in the caverns of darkness crafting their their contracts on new transportation projects and raising taxes without providing public hearings for the taxpayers paying the bills.

In addition, no one is mentioning the fact that this newly-created commission is going to create a new expansion of government whose funding revenues will come from the operating budgets from each of the cities and counties in the Tidewater region and will run in the millions and grow exponentially.

The Republicrats need to be taught a lesson on their approval on this bill. We cannot allow them a "Get Out of Jail" pass like they were given on last year's endorsement of the largest tax increase in the history of Virginia.

Conservatives, you are getting the government you deserve and it's quite evident you enjoy being played like a violin and as Court Jesters to these RINOs!

I recently watched this video of 3 of our elected Officials speaking on Transportation and it strikes me a bit ironic that they should be complaining about the outside agencies unelected official at VDOT and ERC brokering a Tunnel Deal and entering into a contract without the deal coming before our General Assembly for approval while these two bills are flying thru the General Assembly to create another one.

We do not need any more government committees to spend more money. It can be done withn our current designated committees satisfactorily. They just need to be made more efficient.

We do not need another layer of state government that is not accountable to the voters.

I can't agree with any group that can slip in tolls and spend money without the citizens input. I also want them to be elected and responsible to the people.

Sen. Warner and Kaine want this to drain Hampton Roads taxpayers and drivers to support their Democrat conclave of Northern Virginia, we will receive little benefit and will lose our constitutionally protected right to no taxation without representation and our property rights due to no recourse against the board and their power of eminent domain; socialism arrived in Virginia with the lady election, stupid voters believe Democrat liars and their fake principles espoused during elections!

'We, The People' of Tidewater have been fighting the relentless effort to set up unaccountable, all-appointed REGIONAL governing for DECADES.

In 2002 we had a $2.5M Business Lobby called the "Yes Campaign" try to force a regional transportation decision-making process upon use (SB 668). Voters rejected it by 2-to-1 opposed!

In 2007 the corrupt General Assembly brought it back, no referendum this time. They passed HB 3202. Gov. Kaine signed it into law. A few of us "grassroots sued the General Assembly because all-appointed regional taxing authorities are unconstitution in VA. We Won! The Hampton Roads Transportation Authority was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of VA.

So, here it is, 2014 - and it's BACK - another attempt to inflict unaccountable regional government upon use!

Please, join us - just say "No!"

We don't need more government, we need those we directly elect to do their job - and to be accountable to the voters!

Politicians will always do anything they can to remove the right of the individual to retain his/her right to vote on the issues that affect them.

#12 More unaccountable Virginia government bureaucracy?

2014-02-07 20:37

Government--local, state, and federal--works for us, the taxpayers and voters. The people's power is in the ballot box. The proposed regulators are outside the ballot box. This is not government by and for the people.

Our Revolutionaries fought for the rule of law. The Government MUST be subject to law, and to the will of the people or we are all once again serfs.

Unelected and unaccountable government that is empowered to independently create debt and place levies on citizens. This proposed bill is afront to all that founding fathers sacrificed to secure our independence from tyranny. How far we have fallen from the greatness of Jefferson, Madison, and Patrick Henry.

Provision #9 tells me that they already know that parts ofthis are unconstitutional:
"9 of 12: If any portion of the powers of the Commission shall be found unconstitutional, the remaining powers will remain intact." The Republican Party is aiding in its own extinction.

Today is Valentines Day: It is so sad that in a 'region' with over a million residents, we have onlu 163 either informed or willing to stand up against this horrific effort to emasculate the power of the electorate. What is WRONG with people? Do they fail to comprehend that all-appointed regional govering is a form of taxation without representation?

Fighting Taxation Without Representation is the founding principle of our American Revolution to free us from the tyranny of the Crown.

Elected Officials should stop delegating duties and responsibilities to unelected and appointed commissions.

Enough big government. Commissions answer to no one and most have ruined our State.

If you believe that politicians we ELECT are no longer representing us JUST THINK how many non-elected commissions, boards, panels, etc.'s are given so much 'freedom' to institute rules, laws, etc.'s ON THEIR OWN without ever considering the citizen's opinions or input. Citizens had better keep an eye on who is appointed to these 'groups' and closely monitor them. This is one of those instances that is SUPER important and must be stopped in its tracks. Sure seems like czars are run amuck in our state!

I find it absolutely disgusting that we can no longer trust elected officials to do what is best for Virginians and for this precious country of ours. Let Freedom Ring!!!
We already have enough unelected who try to tell us what to do without recourse and we need no more of that.  Think about the lady who was told she could not have a birthday party for eight year olds in her own home, do you want to be told that you must give up your property without proper recompense or that you must pay for some other country to care for your roads and charge you forever to ride on them??? I DO NOT!!!

June 2014 will be just a warm-up of what the rogue Republicans will experience in the 2014 Mid Term and the 2016 elections.

I am positive in my statement that I and many other long time Republican voters (perhaps a majority)cannot in good conscience continue to support the republican party and therefore will not support any republican candidate regardless of who their opponent may be.

The Republican party leadership and Republican representatives have abandoned the Republican party and embraced the ideology of the Marxists progressives, and are no longer the opposition to that ideology, but, have instead become complicit and enablers of the anti America agenda.

The only real difference between todays Republican representatives and the democrat representatives is the fair market price of their vote to pass unconstitutional, unethical and un-American legislation which is established by the lobbyists of the corrupt corporate enterprise system and anti American special interest groups (both foreign and domestic).

If the R.I.C.O. laws were stringently enforced to clean up the political system (they are not) there would be a huge increase in the prison population of the United States, and we would no longer be under siege by the millions of illegals from third world countries, not going to war without a declaration from the congress, or having unelected Czars and Czarinas writing and enacting unconstitutional laws and regulations.
If the political criminals were brought to justice, the federal government would, by neccessity be reduced to half it's current size, ditto for all state governments. Our national debt would be eradicated in very short order, and about the only people left unemployed would be the lawyers, the drug dealers, Illiterate and mentally deficient teachers, the abortionists, and the depraved .
It is time for all real Americans to demand accountability of the political system and the judicial system.
