Exemption from doing community services

I am signing this petition beceause I am currently a 3rd year (going on 4th year) pharmacy student. Community Service will greatly impact my life in 2 years time as I am the only breadwinner in my family. I have been told and personally experienced how insensitive the SA DOH is regarding CSP placements.

This system is putting us in a very terrible situation as I cannot work, since the Pharmacy Act prohibits it. I am a victim of the system

(Potchefstroom, 2017-01-09)

#7

I'm signing because I believe this is an issue that affect the entirety of the profession and, there are means that DoH and SAPC can at the ameliorate the situation.

(Durban , 2017-01-09)

I feel there's not enough posts available for students for community service and hence why students should be allowed to do community service at retail pharmacies as well or any other pharmacy as long as they are not jobless or in such a situation where they won't be able to adjust in the environment they've been placed in due to either family constraints or anything else.

(Port Elizabeth , 2017-01-09)

#9

I am directly affected by the situation and all progress in my life as a Pharmacist has just come to a sudden halt after all the years of studying, all the hard work!

(Germiston, 2017-01-09)

#10

I am signing because I am a victim of this system. I am currently unemployed and frustrated due to the national Dept of Health not being timeous enough in their placements procedures.

(Durban, 2017-01-09)

#11

I have still not been placed for Commserve. Sitting at home with a B. Pharm degree without a job

(Pretoria , 2017-01-09)

#12

I am currently (hopelessly) awaiting to be placed for CSP 2017, after meeting all intern requirements.

(PORT ELIZABETH, 2017-01-09)

#15

I want progress in the profession.

(Pretoria, 2017-01-09)

#16

I support this initiative in consolidarity with my fellow pharmacists' struggle to achieve full registration with SAPC. The community service year was a noble initiative but is now becoming an obstacle to deliver healthcare services to the poor and retarding the careers of these young pharmacist.

(Cape Town, 2017-01-09)

#17

I am one of the affected affected CSP with no job, and don't have any other means to make money because of the obligation to do community service.

(Pretoria , 2017-01-09)

#19

It is essential that people are exempted from doing com serve if government doesn't have the funds to allow them to do com serve. Kindly release them if there aren't any funds.

(Pretoria, 2017-01-09)

#20

I feel the Act should be ammended as the reasons stated are valid and this would work in my favour as well as for the nation.

(Johannesburg, 2017-01-09)

#26

I have been waiting for placement for CSP since 2014, have been waiting since because I'm a foreign national who completed B.Pharm and internship in South Africa. Pharmacist is a critical skills in this country therefore we should be able to practise as Pharmacists and not sit on our degrees and skills due to lack of space in rural areas. Maybe allow interns to practise for 2 years in Govt and waiver the CSP requirement.

(Pretoria, 2017-01-09)

#29

I am a bursary holder from KZN but has not been placed for community service 2017. I have been in contact with the department from 2nd round till now with no help but useless hopeless responses.

(Durban, 2017-01-09)

#35

l have been waiting for a year after my internship to get placed for pharmacist community service.

(CAPE TOWN, 2017-01-09)

#36

I am signing in support of my colleagues who are having their lives come to a stand still due to the lack of community service positions.

(Johannesburg , 2017-01-09)

#40

My own community service application and year was fraught with stress. The DoH did not give any consideration to my pleas for placement and subjected me to a political power game as though I weren't even a human being worthy of compassion. I have the deepest sympathy for all those who will one day have to face this obstacle as it would seem the organization and manage a of the community service system has gone from bad to worse.

(Port Elizabeth , 2017-01-09)

#41

I was supposed to start internship 2017, but DoH Mpumalanga and Limpopo told us that they do not have space and funds for some of us. It would be said to go through this again when I am supposed to do community service because government doesn't have space for some of us to work.

(Mpumalanga, 2017-01-09)

#42

I agree with the petition

(Polokwane, 2017-01-09)

#43

I am in agreement with the above mentioned petition. I am also one of the many affected CSPS who was placed then replaced so I am left with nowhere to go due to the Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974 section 14. Hence I fully agree with this petition.

(Polokwane, 2017-01-09)

#49

(Durban, 2017-01-09)

(Preroria, 2017-01-09)

#55

I'm signing because I graduated in 2013 and have been struggling to become registered as a Pharmacist, please allow us to continue with our careers as this is precious time we can never get back.

(Germiston, 2017-01-09)

#62

I'm completing my internship program in 8 months

(Polokwane, 2017-01-09)

#67

I'm signing this Petition because looking at the ideology of community service as a whole the basis is to be placed in public health facilities and to help the communities that need it. Placing us in private facilities defeats the purpose of the term community service... At the end of it all it holds back qualified pharmacists from entering the working environment and positively contributing to the poorly performing economy. If there is no means to provide the pharmacists with the necessary remuneration then it is only fair to let them seek it elsewhere and allow them to become further themselves financially.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2017-01-09)

#68

I graduated in May 2014 from Medunsa... Until now, I haven't started my internship!!!!

(Johannesburg, 2017-01-09)

(Pretoria, 2017-01-09)

#118

Community Service is a waste of government resources...that money can be utilised to train more pharmacist interns to better the profession

(polokwane , 2017-01-09)

#119

It's unfair and demoralising. It's not their doing so they shouldn't be held accountable for this mess.

(Mafikeng , 2017-01-09)

#124

I need a CSP post, and I have? OT been placed yet.

(Cape Town, 2017-01-09)

#127

The lives of our children are taken as nothing. They deserve better than the way they are currently being treated. Let them just be Pharmacists. They have proven that they are of high quality.

(Port Elizabeth, 2017-01-09)

#134

I am signing because it's not fair to finish your degree and then for the lest of your life you work as post basic pharmacists assistant. SA must take in consideration of the refugees in South Africa who finish the pharmacy degree but yet they can't become pharmacist because no facility will give them internership or community service if they don't have ID.
If they allowed to work and study why they do not get intern and comm service?

(Cape Town, 2017-01-09)

#144

I feel people worked too hard to get where they are they should be given an opportunity to advance their careers

(Kwamhlanga , 2017-01-09)

#145

I am a pharmacist's intern in south Africa

(Johannesburg, 2017-01-09)

#147

Pharmacist's are pioneers of health and should be treated as such. This mediocre treatement is deamining to our profession.

(Tzaneen, 2017-01-09)

#154

I'm signing because I am a pharmacy student and one day I may be in this position too

(Durban, 2017-01-09)

#155

Disrupts person's life for no useful purpose.

(East London, 2017-01-09)

#156

I have not only obtained my PBharm degree successfully but have also met all the requirements for completing my internship. However, I have not been placed for community service. I do not mind having to start comm serve later, but I find it disturbing that the department of health cannot give us any indication of when placement will take place, or if it will even take place at all any time soon. We all have lives to live and we deserve to be able to start living it as professional people. We are of no use to the community if we are kept out of the working environment.

(Port Elizabeth, 2017-01-09)

#165

I'm a future pharmacist.

(East London, 2017-01-09)

#171

I am one of those who is getting suffered.
However its lack of attention given by NDOH on such an important issue

(pretoria, 2017-01-09)

#175

It is unfair that only some professions have to do community service and others not. This is unfair discrimination.

(Krugersdorp, 2017-01-10)

#176

I was also a victim of this law that deters progress and had to leave after I had been waiting in limbo for a whole year. Hope this helps my colleagues

(Port Elizabeth , 2017-01-10)

#181

I'm worried that our profession is undermined

(Polokwane , 2017-01-10)

#182

Its grave matter that concerns me

(Pretoria , 2017-01-10)

#185

My very well educated friends out there can not remain unemployed because "the system" is failing them. Professional growth is needed. Something needs to be done about it.

(Polokwane, 2017-01-10)

#189

I am currently studying pharmacy. It is very stressful to be concerned about community service year placement, knowing that many people do not get placed. Especially when not everyone can just pick up and move to any city in which one is placed (if you are lucky enough to be placed). The compulsory year needs to be ended.

(Port Elizabeth, 2017-01-10)

#196

I haven't yet been placed to do my com serv. I feel this is unfair and I am being held back. And it is unfair that individuals such as myself that we can not be placed or we are placed in areas where nobody wants to go.
