I am a Birmingham musician. How come London has money pumped into it's arts but ours gets cut? We need to this centre open to showcase the creativity from Birmingham!

Newtown is a derived area and is short on resources to start with. The Drum is a vital asset for the area. It is very short sighted of the council to cease funding for this important part of the Newtown (and Birmingham) community

There aren't many more entertainment centres left for the ethinic minority community, so the drums loss will re-inforce deprivation for an already deprived community.

The arts are continuously being attacked and we need to stand up together to try and save things that we know can make a difference and impact in a lot of lives , young , old and different communities . The Arts Matter !

The drum is a integral, positive asset to the black community. Promoting black culture and positivity. We have to have a rich heritage to leave for our children's children.
It's important for us to have our own mark in our community and society as a whole.

I believe it is an important cultural centre which provides an essential forum for Black Arts and Culture. There are not many venues such as this. I was hoping one day to perform there with the Choir I run which is an Afro-Cuban Choir, and was sad to hear that it was having difficulties.

I have signed this petition because the Drum provided the space in which black art is give an equal platform, why should the MAC, located in one of the most affluent parts of the city, get the benifit.. and investment ... closure of the Drum will disadvantage communities who live in Newtown and surrounding areas.. not everyone can afford to travel that far... again, anything that is "black led" is always first to be targeted when funding is tight.. I am fed up with this... first Handsworth carnival, now the Drum. .

The drum is an important part of Birmingham for the black community as well as the youths of today & the future. There's always something going on at the drum wether it be plays, comedy shows or singing & drama clubs as extra activities for our children to safely take part in. If the drum were to close then there would be no other place for these activities to take place.

I have been attending events at The Drum for many many years. It is well established amongst the West Indian community as a place that has become our Arts and Cultural Centre historically.

I live very close to this establishment and believe it truly an asset to the community. As a mother i hope my children will utilise the building in some way too.
