The jail sentence (10 weeks) is a joke considering the suffering caused at the hands of Evans. The WPCS need to take a stand and publicly condemn the acts of this person.

Why is the same family allowed to retain the other ponies they should of intervened before things got to this stage. I personally saw a dead pony years ago which was left for days! So much suffering! The sentence he has been given is ludicrous !!

His actions are unforgivable and he should be shown the disgust of people who have ponies welfare at heart

Have seen first hand what these ponies are suffering but people in authority i.e auctioneers and horse societies are condoning it and representing this man when he has the gall to bring them to a public breed sale in appalling states he is nowhere to be seen and every excuse is made so he can remain 'out of the picture' on the day its disgusting and his family are as much to blame.

The WPCS must reassert the standards that the members and the public expect from a breed society. The repeated turning a blind eye to poor breeding practices and appalling welfare issues surrounding certain semi feral herds is unacceptable. We expect the Society to set the example on how to behave and not to endorse by inaction the desperately poor and criminal practices of some members of their group.

The jail sentence (10 weeks) is not enough considering the suffering caused at the hands of Mr Evans. The WPCS need to take a stand and publicly condemn the acts of this person. They also need to look into the non action of family members/associates who did nothing to prevent this cruelty.

I find it disgusting that a very well known stud such as the Criccieth stud as been neglecting & abusing these beautiful little ponies for years & only just come to light this should have been stopped years ago. But i hope these ponies get their justice poor little mites

This is a huge embarassment to WPCS and to Wales..it gives the breed and our country a bad image worldwide. It cannot be tolerated.

Sad and disgusting to think that this was allowed to go on for so long. The warning signs were totally ignored!

WPCS need to step up and get their house in order. Builth and Brecon sales have become a travesty of breed standard with foals going for a pound for the meat market. For god's sake it costs more to register these ponies than they are worth! WPCS needs to put a firm handbrake on registrations from unscrupulous breeders. The repeated issues of abandonement, neglect, meat trade is making the breed society look pathetic, especially in this type of case where the man is allegedly a violent bully.

Well said.  The WPCS repeatedly asserts that it has no powers of intervention in welfare cases, but it does have the power to alert the relevant welfare authorities, to suspend membership until standards are improved, and to refuse to register stock from studs that do not uphold its values.  Inaction by the WPCS is exactly the same as condoning what goes on.

#24: Guest - Re:

members who are breeders/reg breeders of the wpcs should sign a agreement to allow a wpcs welfare officer to view the stud and breeding faccilities/ and also the welfare of the horses and foals bred ,this viewing should  every 12 months, any breach of this agreement the member should be banned for life and keeping horses of any description. if the wpcs havent got a appropriate person to do the job because it is to expensive then they should to review the annual subscriptions and put someone in place.
