THERE ARE NO PLANS TO BUILD HOUSES IN THIS PART OF SITTINGBOURNE - STOP SCAREMONGERING!

Yes please stop the discussion on the houses these are not proposed (at the moment). Please get some facts correct here, it is not just the school that we are all against, if they announced that they were going to build a large industrial unit on the land we would fight it. This issue is about safety, blocked roads, green land and most of all the Non Democratic way this whole affair has been handled. KCC The School and The Church have not considered the majority view of the local people.

it beggars belief that the Swale Council would even think to use this small piece of the country side to build on let alone a School. This will produce traffic not only trying to move but at school run be in possible to get past parked cars. Please keep Tunstall as a small village which has managed up until now to cope why create devastation when it isn't necessary. We don't want a bigger school.

#80 This affects all Sittingbourne

2014-02-08 12:32

For the last decade or more it has been impossible to cross Sittingbourne at the start and end of the school day due, in part at least, to the number of cars delivering and collecting children from housing developments to the north (Iwade, Sonara Fields) to schools in the south, both closer to the town and in the surrounding villages. At last, a much overdue new school development gives the opportunity to alleviate this perpetual problem. It must be obvious to all that to site the new school where the children are, to the north of the town, would not only avoid needlessly worsening this situation but could actually improve it by reducing the need for so many journeys and so much disruption. But no, KCC’s only proposal is to place an even larger school just about as far south as you can go. We don’t expect KCC to care, they are only interested in their own budget, but Swale must have a duty to stand up for its own residents and seek the best solution, not the cheapest!

Only 2 children from Tunstall go to Tunstall school. How about building schools where the children are rather than where they aren't - this would save the countryside, reduce congestion, etc. This proposed school is not for Tunstall

New intake at proposed new school (church goers and good Christian one and all, of course) from Church Milton, Sonora Fields, Iwade, Kemsley and new houses off B2006 all driving through Oad Street, Munsgore, Borden and all points south, as well as through the town centre, towards an already dangerous and very busy country lane at the furthest point from them still in Sittingbourne area. For many years we have all been asking, for all the new housing developments, “WHERE’S THE INFRASTRUCTURE?”

Now we know!

Tunstall Road is a narrow winding country lane which would not support the increased amount of traffic. It is a rat run, and already very busy in the morning and evening.
The plans for a brash modern school are totally out of keeping in a rural area with attractive old houses, and it would be wrong to build on farmland so joining Tunstall to Sittingbourne. Far better to build a new school on the new estates where the children live so creating community spirit and necessitating less travel.

Tunstall School is nice because it's SMALL. That is why parents sent their children there. It has been given a 'Good' for both quality of teaching and overall effectiveness by Ofsted, and an 'Outstanding' for the effectiveness of care, guidance and support.

As a former pupil, I can genuinely say this is a good school and a bigger school just wouldn't be as good. I live close to the school (Ruins Barn Road) and my road and surrounding roads would greatly be affected by traffic. There is already a huge amount of cars going to and from Kent Science Park.

Tunstall Road isn't big enough to cope with an additional 400 cars and the council would probably end up widening the road (again).

No matter how much we say, this is a fight we won't win. Apparently, its a democracy...

It would be better to invest and build permanent buildings on the current school site, maintain and/or restrict the intake but allow this great C of E village school to retain its identity and reputation. There have been "temporary" classrooms on the site since at least 1986 maybe the current plans were always the intention? Surely a school would be better built nearer the more recently built estates to the North and East of the town, nearer the families and not add to the rush hour traffic already criss crossing Sittingbourne each day - it's madness. Tunstall road can barely cope with the current traffic from commuters and parents it certainly cannot cope with twice as much! Please see sense KCC and rethink this proposal

Tom 84#
Why another 400 cars? - The school is expanding by 210 children so at most there would be 210 additional cars though families and car sharing would significantly reduce that number as will those who walk. Up to 50 could arrive early for Breakfast Club and there are also many after school clubs which will reduce the spread of cars at the end of the school day.

Would not it be a better idea to build a new school in the town ,therefore not increasing traffic in an already over subscribed rural area? At present local children could never walk or cycle to their school in safety due to children outside the area being driven in. The countryside is what the name describes not a place to build on and destroy, once built on we will never get it back

Let's take Tunstall into the 21st century. This is wonderful for the children and the community!

Read the facts. There is no invesment uness there is expansion. The school cannot expand on its current site.It is a church school and needs to be near the church. The land is owned by KCC and has been designated land for education for many, many years.

It will be twice as good! why does an extra 210 places in 2022 mean that there will be an extra 400 cars????

In 2015 there will be 30 more children, around half will be siblings so IF all drive that will mean 15 more cars!!! And there will be more parking spaces anyway!!!!!!!!!
