I am chair of Save Kilcreene Services @ Kilkennny, it is planned to move elective orthropedic surgery to Waterford, which can't cope with its lot as is. WE stand shoulder to shoulder with Portlaois.

Because it is needed in my locality. Other hospitals are under enough pressure without closing hospitals a and e departments. Is there enough trolleys in other hospitals to be able to close Portlaoise?

Surely the solution is to provide adequate resources and funding rather than downgrade?

I dont want to lose A &E,we need this service. My child was born there and I had a hysterectomy there last year, doctors and staff were fantastic. We found have no complaints of this hospital. Keep it open the population need

Almost 2yrs ago my husband took very ill in the middle of the night. Thank God I got him to A&E at 5 in the morning. It was later discovered he had a perforated bowel. Would dread to think what the outcome would be if I had to travel anywhere else. He was looked after straight away. We need our hospital and we certainly need our A&E

I grew up in Rathdowney and there is need for central we triage assessment , stabilization prior to transfer to appropriate facilities in Dublin if necessary keep people off the roads when possible and closer to friends and family.

look at the many tiers of administration, save the clinical settings

in the midlands.

More people are going to die because of our inability to run and properly fund services in this country. 5 years ago, Portlaoise hosptal saved my life. I would not be alive to write this if the hospital had been downgraded before that.

This is despicable of this government to do this again last time finagal was in power they put opening hours on a&e s my grandfather had a heart attack and was rushed to James s hospital at 8pm and the ambulance driver was told they were closed and while they argued my grandad died in the back of a ambulance .
This government must go if we let them into power again we are going to pay with are loved ones lives

Portlaoise has grown in its population and the government's thinking of closing the A&E? It doesn't make sense! The community needs this service, closing will cost lives, A&E is for saving lives not money!

Regardless of more complex Surgeries been transferred to Dublin or Tullamore. the Accident and Emergency Unity should be kept open 24 Hours on account the County's Population .

I think it is a disgrace that you would remove such vital services to a place the size of Portlaoise. What next?

We need an a&e close, for children also. This hospital has already failed us, now you want to fail us further? How hard is it to run a bloody hospital? It's a joke. Your just embarrassing yourselves! Just get your house in order portlaoise, and provide the services your supposed to.

After Maternity being the cause for the initial inquiry into services at Portlaoise Hospital, I find it hard to understand why that is the area that seems most likely to remain, and even be improved upon. Whilst other essential areas such as A&E 24 hour service, Critical care areas and complex surgery is taken away. Disgraceful. The hopsital needs funding and staffing correctly, not downgrading in any way at all.
