surely the meaning of charity begins at home means exactly that, help others sure, but the whole south coast needs it more urgently. As usual the government ignores the wishes of the people ,which may be its own undoing

It is time all political parties stopped giving OUR money to other countries and looked after people in this country----- the tax payer--- the people who pay their salaries and bloated expenses.

I am extremely surprised that people are concentrating on raising funds from individuals to distribute thus reducing the money available to the economy as a whole instead of concentrating on campaigning for the Government to reduce considerably the Overseas aid given by the U,K. Charity begins at home !! Please inform me of Donations given to the U.K. from overseas Governments.

We are not a Milk Cow for the rest of the world.

Thank you.

If food was very short in the UK would we send food abroad? As money for flood relief is needed in the UK why send so much to corrupt Governments overseas?

#409 stop foreign aid

To send money abroad is crass stupidity. Given the extreme weather conditions currently suffered by so many use every last penny to sort ot the situation. Please keep any future foreign aid for our own use when required for whatever purpose to aid ourselves.

~This must have cost David Cameron the next election. Does he know how livid the British people are in coming last in help needed. Its a disgrace and, of course, charity should begin at home first and foremost. Get real Mr. Cameron - you're lost the plot. Foreign aid should be reduced drastically.

I hope David Cameron and the government realize how many people in this country feel about overseas aid.
Charity certainly should begin at home!

The money sent to countries that can afford to fund space programs etc. do not need our money and there are plenty of projects in this country that do, the floods being the latest. This money could go towards hospitals schools roads etc. What makes the ministers in charge think that they know more than people who have lived in these areas all their lives. Is about time they learnt to listen.

Countries that can afford a space programme do not need our aid. This is our money and we should have some say in how it is spent. Charity begins at home, overseas aid should be by voluntary contributions.

Recently retired soldier, through 25 years of serving this great country of ours I have never questioned the government, wasn't our place to.... However now I am. Mr Cameron do something about these floods now, it's commendable we help other countries but let's help our own 1st for a change, do you think these other countries would help us? Not a chance, suspend foreign aid and re- allocate to the home front until all this is sorted, why the hell do we need a petition for this? It should be the 1st thing that comes into the minds of those ball washers in parliament!
Once the situation is under control then send your aid again, but really do we need to send the amount we do? The majority of it doesn't reach the needy, I seen this 1st hand in Africa and Afghanistan, vast amounts are lost in corruption.
Show the world why we have the word GREAT in our name. Act ASAP for gods sake

As a "Christian" country we have a duty of care to look after our neighbours first and foremost.
Thanks to the Daily Mail,Sky,and the Free Press the Nation is aware that our Goverment needs to make urgent and rapid ammends to the Victims of this Natural National Disaster. There should be one National Charity Fund via Daily Mail/ Sky for all victims as opposed to several little funds.
Now is not the time for blame game,2014 is the year to spend the £11 billion of overseas aid in
Great Britan and help our neighbour in S.Ireland if required. Time to show ruthless leadership Mr Cameron and take care of the decent British folk
who are suffering the worst disaster since WW II.
