The tiger should not be punished for being a wild animal held in captivity, behaving like a wild animal. My heart goes out to the family who have lost a loved one, but surely they would not wish to see a mistake result in this tiger's death.

I feel that wild animals will be wild animals - no matter how long they have been kept in captivity - in these circumstances unfortunately I feel the tiger felt threatended or something spooked him and the end result was a the lose of a human life - and obviously she was a caring being - however that is not a reason to kill him.

I don't believe a preditory animal should be killed for doing what nature designed it to do. Humans should not treat wild animals like pets.

because its not the tigers fault. zookeeps should know the risk of working with wild animals.

The tiger was just doing what was in its nature. If it was a wild tiger, we wouldn't hunt and kill it. Thus is the same thing.

Wild animals are just that, whether contained or not. Keepers should NEVER be in their territory alone or unassisted. I can not imagine what process led to this tragedy.

Its a terrible incident that has happened and the zoo keeper died of the injuries. We { humans ] have put this tiger in a cage and he is not in his normal environment [ out in the wild] He does not understand the reason/s he is in the zoo Maybe saving his breed . So why should he be put down??? and im sure the girl that died would not want this to happen. Its the same will all high risk jobs beware of your surroundings of what you do and how you do it

It would be very unfair for this animal to be killed for doing what they are meant to do.

This is a beautiful and endangered creature. It was only doing what comes natural to it. If the rolls where reversed and the human killed the tiger we would not put the human down.

Because the tiger was only being natural, it did not ask to be caged up - it is up to the keepers to keep themselves safe.

Please save Oz the tiger. It was not his falt he has a natural instinct as a tiger to hunt, prey, chase things that are in his enclosure. He is not a human. Humans have the ability to decide right from wrong. We as humans have the ability to decide to kill or not to kill. Here in New Zealand we dont have the death penalty for human murders, so there fore, why would we have a death penalty for a natural preditor? Oz is amounst the rarest tigers in the world and to sentence Oz to death would be a crime in its self as we as the human race have destroyed far to much of our planets greatest gifts as it is. Lastly we must ask our selves would Samantha her self want that to happen to Oz?

Tigers shouldn't be put down for being a Tiger. The Zoo keeper should have known not to be in the same enclosure as a highly dangerous wild animal.

Because OZ is a wild animal and though it was a horrifying thing to happen to the poor zoo keeper, family and wee children, he was just being a Tiger as he was born to be. It sounds like the zoo keeper adored Oz, so I'm sure she wouldn't want him killed either. Wild animals in captivity are not domesticated and safe to be around. They are still very unpredictable. My condolences go to the family & the zoo staff. I have children of my own, and have shed many tears only imagining what the family must be going through. So, so very sad all round.

A tiger is a wild animal not a cat, she made a mistake that lost her her life and Im sure she wouldnt want it put down after reading all about this amazing woman. Its only natural for it to kill and hunt.   PLEASE REMOVE no 743  Can anyone else complain about his comment as well

Absolutely ridiculous. How can you remove a creature from its home, lock it in a cage and then get mad when it does what comes naturally? Put the damn humans down!
